John Burden (1792-1852) & Lucy Blunt (1796-1855)
John Burden, his wife Lucy with their children Mary Anne, 19, 18, John, 16, and Silvester [Sylvestriess/Sylvestra] Rose, 14, were among the emigrants on the voyage of the Lady Nugent to Sydney. John was a bricklayer, and his wife Lucy a general servant, and on arrival in Sydney on 27 November 1838 John was 42, born 29 March 1794 in the parish of Woodchurch in Kent and his parents were Thomas Burden a bricklayer there and Hannah his wife, then living.

Brick Walls
John Burden was born in Woodchurch, married a girl from Maidstone, wed in Sheppey and had his children baptized in Rolvenden, but proof has not yet been forthcoming that he was in fact the child of Thomas Burden and Hannah Austen who lived in Woodchurch, married there on 27 August 1775, but whose place of legal settlement was Tenterden, although I believe this to be so. Thomas and Hannah had other children named Thomas, Stephen, William James, Jonathan, Richard and Mary.
A research brick wall also exists for Lucy Blunt’s parents Thomas and Anne of Maidstone, deceased by 1838, but I am ever hopeful, as new material increasingly becomes available. Any information would be most welcome.
