Henry Harrington Greene (1849-1898)
It is believed that Henry was born in Birmingham Warwickshire in 1849 but some certificates give his birth place as Sydney and Melbourne and his parentage is still a mystery. It is thought that his mother was Mary Greene and that Henry came to Launceston Tasmania while very young. He was a carpenter and married Henrietta Blair, daughter of Launceton shipwright Alexander Blair on 18 August 1870. By 1875 they had moved to Victoria where Henry was involved with the Independent Order of Oddfellows and his then occupation was newspaper editor. The family then came to Sydney. Their children were Alice (c.1875), Ethel Maud (1878), Florence May (1875), Florence Gertrude Murray (1876), Mary A (?), Henry Douglas Harrington (c.1880), and my grandmother Grace Murielle Rose on 24 June 1882. Henry died on 10 August 1898. Henrietta died on 15 January 1935 in St Vincents Hospital Sydney following a fall in the street.
