Cecilia Mary Adeline Shepherd (1878-1977)
My grandmother, known in the family as Ciss, was born at Balmain NSW on 8 June 1878. Her parents were Mary Leonard and Frederick Shepherd and she was the granddaughter of convicts Walter Leonard and Bridget Duffy who arrived on the Neptune (1838) and the Minerva (1839) respectively. Both were from Co Meath, Ireland. She married Henry James Dodds, a bootmaker, on 26 June 1897 and their children were Harry Cecil (Cec) (1897), Edith Mabel (Edie) (1900), Herbert James (Bert) (1902), William Frederick (Bill) (1904), John Leslie (Jack) (1906), Irene Lily (Rene) (1912) and the youngest, my father Walter Lindsay (Wal) (1913).
